Meet Las Escalitas
Melissa Oberg
"I love the mountains. As a Colorado girl, they are in my blood. Over the past few years I have had the priviledge of climbing across Colorado and South America: including 14ers, the Mexico volcanos, Huayna Potosi in Bolivia and Aconcagua in Argentina. The only thing I like better than climbing, is climbing with other women, which is why I am so looking forward to this trip with the escalitas. Oh and this is my graduation trip, which only adds to the excitment. A la cumbre!"

"I was lucky enough to grow up in Northern Idaho, so I had a lot of opportunities to ski, hike, camp and hangout outdoors. After I moved to Colorado to attend college I was introduced to rock climbing, backcountry skiing, ice/snow climbing and mountaineering. These have become big passions for me, and now I spend most of my "free" time playing in the mountains, one way or another. This will be my first international expedition, and my first time climbing above 14,000 ft, so this is a big deal for me! I am super psyched to be climbing/traveling with such awesome mountaineers, friends, and women. I am also fortunate enough to be sponsored by a new local company called Blue Sun, so it will be cool to represent them internationally!" Check out Blue Sun

"I first discovered climbing and mountaineering when I moved to Colorado in 2002. Pikes Peak was my first 14er, and I remember the adrenaline rush of taking huge steps up an icy boulder field and breathing in oxygen like I was drinking water. Since then the mountains have been a constant presence in my life. They are my motivation and meditation. From South America to Mexico, from Ethiopia back to Colorado, mountaineering has become an international endeavor. I've had the pleasure of climbing the Mexican Volcanoes, high passes in Bolivia and Ethiopia, and Aconcagua in 2010. Ecuador is the next adventure, and I am stoked to be climbing with two awesome ladies! If there is one thing better than climbing, it is climbing with women! :)"
