Rocky Mountain National Park
Snow, wind and a great workout!
Jewel Lake, Glacier Gorge

Heather went backpacking in Rocky Mountain National Park right after Christmas 2011. We just can't get enough of that place, especially in the winter! It's perfect for training in the snow, ice climbing, and battling the wind!

Ice climbing with the masters!

Melissa had a blast with Rodney Ley and Jim Davidson climbing some ice near Georgetown, CO a couple days ago (December 2011)...A very reliable sources says she literally ran circles around the boys on the approach, NICE....I guess that means she is ready!
Learning to use these things doesn't always come easily...good thing Mel's a good sport about it!

Great way to take advantage of the great Colorado weather, early ice, AND celebrate Graduation from CSU! Congratulations Mel!

More Medicine Bows!

It has been hard to stay away from the Medicine Bows....even if it means driving to WY in the dark....pitching a tent in the snow right in front of a "NO CAMPING" sign, drinking lukewarm coffee from a dying stove and snow slogging up a wind loaded slope to whiskey rock.

Twin Sisters : November (2011)
                                                                   Here is summit #1

And here is # 2! 4hrs round trip, although we did have to run the last 1/2 mile to make it in time.

Grizzly
The Escalitas went out for a training climb to Grizzly Peak a few weeks ago, located in Loveland pass near Greys and Torreys Peak and Loveland Ski Area. It is quite the tourist area, as it is on the continental divide....although most people just take a picture by the sign.

Summit of Grizzly! 13-thousand-something ft, November (2011)

And it was just as cold as it looked, and WINDY!

Browns Peak, WY

While Teammate Heather (Lindsey) Young was busy slogging through mud and adventuring in Africa as her training, Natalie Berve and Melissa Oberg were lucky enough to get out with Loren Spears and Rodney Ley for some snow climbing and crevasse rescue practice.

Browns Peak Snowfield in WY is only about an hour away from Ft. Collins, and provided an ideal training ground, believe it or not this picture was taken in Late September.

Medicine Bows, WY

The Snowy Range has treated us pretty well this fall, and Rodney Ley has been a big help in preparing us for our upcoming trip. There are some SWEET couloirs up in WY!

Complete with some steep top-outs and incredible views! This was in October (2011).
